STOCKTON - Vidal, a 36-year-old migrant farm worker, needed to send a carta de poder - a letter of power - to Mexico that allowed his wife to take care of his business affairs in Michoac??n, Mexico. His leathery skin, evidence of years of working in the sun, wrinkled his face as he smiled. Vidal, who requested his full name not be used because of his immigration status, was not sure how to write the letter or where to obtain one. Then a friend suggested the services of Maria Piedra at Charter Services in Sahuayo Plaza. Piedra interprets documents from English to Spanish - and vise versa. From behind a 4-foot-tall counter at a steel desk, she does bookkeeping, tax preparation, document processing, immigration consulting. She also partnered up with Rafael Lopez of Mexy Travel to offer travel arrangements.
