A Lexington lawyer was sentenced yesterday to two years in federal prison for attempting to manufacture methamphetamine. Kirk Bierbauer, 39, will report Sept. 11 to a yet-undecided federal prison. U.S. District Court Judge Karl Forester recommended that Bierbauer receive mental-health and addiction counseling. Bierbauer, who pleaded guilty to the federal charges May 10, faces state drug-related charges in Ohio, said his lawyer, Patrick Nash. Bierbauer did not comment as he left the U.S. District Courthouse in Lexington yesterday. Nash said his client was distressed about spending the next two years in federal prison. Bierbauer was arrested Dec. 20 in Ohio after a Wal-Mart employee tipped police that a man was buying cold medicine commonly used in the production of methamphetamine.
