University Park, Pa. -- The Penn State Faculty/Staf Club Forum Lunch speaker series has a power-packed lineup this coming academic year, with a variety of speakers scheduled to speak on timely topics including the war with Iraq; stem-cell biology, forensic science, the problem of obesity in the United States, and other topics. Derek V. Smith, chairman and chief executive officer of ChoicePoint, opens the series with "Risk Revolution: The Dangerous and Growing Gap between Technology and Human Insight" from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 1, in The Nittany Lion Inn Ballroom. Smith has served as ChoicePoint's CEO since the company went public in 1997, adding the chairman's responsibilities two years later. As the company has grown, Smith and the company's senior leadership have recognized that the two areas in which ChoicePoint has the greatest expertise are in identifying and helping to address the economic and physical risks faced daily by American consumers and businesses.
