ENGLEWOOD -- Nearly a year ago, looking through the classified section of a local newspaper, John Archer spotted an unusual job opening. The position was for a lawyer in Englewood. The advertisement left Archer puzzled. "I was surprised," the 40-year-old Englewood lawyer said. "Because they don't normally advertise in the classifieds for attorney positions." He applied for the job, and got it. That was 11 months ago. The position became available after his current law partner, Michael Rieter, suffered a stroke and was unable to run the practice alone. Englewood, in Archer's opinion, is a perfect fit, because it has a growing population, sprawling developments and fledgling businesses. "This area is still in the growth stage," said Archer, who served four years as a public defender in Florida's 12th Judicial Circuit, which covers Sarasota, Bradenton and Venice.
