After Dr. Alok Gupta came to the United States in 1995 to complete his residency in internal medicine, an attorney lost his paperwork. While Gupta was here on an H-1B visa, he sought a green card to continue practicing at Buffalo General Hospital. But it took him a change of attorney in 2000, help from Rep. Thomas Reynolds' office and a total of seven years to get the permanent resident status. .
