When former Georgia schools superintendent Linda Schrenko is sentenced Wednesday, she will likely receive eight years in prison for her role in an embezzlement scheme that led to her remarkable downfall. Schrenko pleaded guilty in May to fraud and money laundering. Prosecutors said the scheme defrauded the public of $600,000 in federal education funds, intended for deaf and honors students. They said the money was funneled into Schrenko's 2002 campaign for governor and spent on a face lift. In the middle of her May trial, Schrenko, 56, struck a plea deal in exchange for testifying against her co-defendants. In the binding agreement, she agreed to serve eight years in prison. Since both sides have agreed to that sentence, it is likely that that is what Schrenko will receive, a legal expert said.
