The American Tort Reform Association, a coalition of private-sector companies, nonprofits and trade groups, is taking its fight with three San Antonio lawyers to the streets. The lawyers, the association says, haven't been sufficiently punished for actions the Texas Court of Appeals called "an egregious example of the worst kind of abuse of the judicial system." The association has placed an ad on a billboard near the Bexar County Courthouse calling the situation the "Texas Justice Massacre." The campaign stems from litigation related to a 1996 auto accident near Sabinas, Coahuila, Mexico. Lawyers Robert Kugle, Robert "Trey" Wilson III and Andrew Toscano represented a couple who sued automaker DaimlerChrysler and local dealer North Star Dodge for $2 billion, alleging that the one-car rollover that killed their children and two other relatives was caused by a defective steering column in their 1995 Dodge Neon.
