Posted July 7, 2006 – Atlanta's ex-Mayor Bill Campbell wants the same judge who sentenced him to more than 2 years in prison to allow him to remain free on bail while he appeals his conviction and punishment for tax evasion. Campbell was convicted in March of three counts of tax evasion but acquitted of more serious corruption charges. And on June 13, U.S. District Judge Richard Story decided that Campbell should do some time behind bars and sentenced him to 2.5 years in prison. In addition to prison time, Campbell was fined $6,300 and must pay $62,823 in back taxes. He filed a notice of intent to appeal late last month. .
