Democratic voters in Congressional District 11 will choose among five candidates vying for the nomination to represent the party in the general election. District 11 is the seat being vacated by Jim Davis as he campaigns against Rod Smith for the Democratic nomination for governor. The district covers sections of Tampa, St. Petersburg and a portion of north Manatee County and central Bradenton, representing about 30,000 voters. Two recognizable names stand out on the crowded ballot: Kathy Castor and Les Miller. Castor, a Hillsborough County Commissioner, is the daughter of Betty Castor, former Florida Education Commissioner and former president of the University of South Florida who ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. Senate in 2004. Miller is a state senator serving roughly the same area as the congressional district.
