Video technology within the court system isn't novel in Butler County, where district judges have been arraigning criminal suspects through video-conferencing for more than three years. The use of the technology, however, has now expanded to the courthouse. A trial of a new sort began in the courtroom of Common Pleas Court Judge William Shaffer this month. Using a video link between the prison and his courtroom in the attached County Government Center, a hearing was held Aug. 1. "I'd call it a success," District Attorney Randa Clark said.
