The Missouri Supreme Court has suspended local lawyer Michael Fletcher from practice following his suspension more than two years ago by the federal court in Kansas City. The U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri entered its order in May 2004 after finding that Fletcher, one of the area's most prolific filers of race and employment discrimination lawsuits, had committed professional misconduct. The court's finding came after two federal judges, Gary Fenner and Ortrie Smith, complained to Chief U.S. District Judge Dean Whipple in January 2003 about Fletcher's litigation tactics in a series of race discrimination cases he had filed against Honeywell Federal Manufacturing & Technologies. Whipple then appointed local attorney Theresa Levings of Badger & Levings to investigate whether Fletcher had violated the Rules of Professional Conduct.
