FORMER Zambia National Commercial Bank (ZNCB) managing director Samuel Musonda has urged Lusaka High Court deputy registrar Jones Chinyama to acquit him of abuse of office charges. This is where Musonda is charged with multiple abuse of authority of office charges during the time he was at the helm of the bank. Musonda's lawyers Mumba Kapumpa and Silas Mambwe submitted yesterday that the charges were related to a special credit facility which government arranged with ZNCB in early 1996 before Musonda became managing director. They argued that the credit facility was highly discreet and confidential arrangement under which the government borrowed funds from ZNCB through the Office of the President in order to meet diverse and sensitive national requirements of strategic and security nature.
