In a recent "My Turn" piece, Gov. Janet Napolitano chided Congress for holding immigration field hearings in Arizona ("Immigration road show," Opinions, Thursday). According to the governor, Arizonans want the federal government to do "something" about illegal immigration. Well, the devil is in the details, and the devil surely had a hand in writing Senate Bill 2611, the proposal our governor supports. The bill should be called "the Illegal Alien and American Immigration Lawyers Association Free Ride Act." It includes provisions requiring aliens to hire a lawyer to apply for amnesty, preventing federal agents from investigating fraud and legislating higher wages and greater job security for "guest workers." Illegal aliens and their enablers get everything and the law-abiding citizen and taxpayer pays the freight.
