Sheriff sues Chattahoochee for more funds
2006-06-30
Cusseta-Chattahoochee County Sheriff Glynn Cooper says he can't operate his department and carry out all of his duties on the 2006-07 budget the county commissioners approved. The budget takes effect Saturday. On Wednesday, Cooper sued the county, seeking a court order to revise his funding so he can fulfill his constitutional and statutory duties. The lawsuit was filed in Chattahoochee County Superior Court by Columbus lawyer Richard C. Hagler. A hearing before Chattahoochee County Superior Court Judge Robert G. Johnston is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday in Cusseta. Cooper seeks a temporary injunction to prohibit the new budget for his department from being implemented. The lawsuit states that his department operated this year on a budget of $625,941 and that the 2006-07 budget provides only $198,963.
