Two north Mississippi attorneys are offering assistance to their southern neighbors affected by Hurricane Katrina and in need of help with IRS legal issues. North Mississippi Rural Legal Services' Almon Ellis and Amanda Evans are accepting cases pro bono. "We are trying to help as many people as we can," said Ellis. "The main people we want to help are low-income taxpayers, but we are willing to help anybody." The program is part of the Mississippi Taxpayers Assistance Project and is funded through grants from AmeriCorps and Equal Justice Works. The agency may be able to help with tax liens and levies, deficiency notices, innocent spouse relief requests, earned income tax credit appeals and other issues.
