An out-of-breath Sonia Lopez hurriedly took a seat in the balcony of Court Street Christian Church. "He wasn't just an attorney. He was like family for some of us," Lopez, a native of Oaxaca, Mexico, said about immigration attorney Michael Muiz. Muiz died Sept. 30 from a heart attack. Lopez, a receptionist at a law office in Salem, and several hundred others remembered Muiz for his far-reaching contributions during a memorial service Thursday. The 220-seat church was filled well before the ceremony began at 1:30 p.m. It lasted more than two hours. The service attracted clients, friends, colleagues and public officials from across the state.
