A Florida man who police contend was the mastermind behind more than 70 hoax calls to fast-food restaurants around the country was acquitted yesterday in the only case that has been brought to trial. A Bullitt County jury took less than two hours to find David Stewart not guilty of impersonating a police officer, soliciting sodomy and soliciting sexual abuse. Stewart's defense attorney, Steve Romines, claimed total vindication. "This was the best case they had, and we all saw what evidence they had," Romines said after the verdict. But Commonwealth's Attorney Mike Mann said he's confident police arrested the right person. "I've not heard of any other phone calls being made" since Stewart was arrested, he said.
