JEFFERSON, Ga. The lawyer for the younger of two men charged in the December 2004 shooting death of a Pendergrass police office says his client should have his 20-year prison sentenced reduced because he tried to prevent the shooting. Attorney Calvin Leipold Junior of Decatur argues that Nolan Leon Chauvin the Fourth drove away when Office Chris Ruse tried to stop his pickup truck. Leipold says his client feared the passenger in his truck would shoot the officer. Leipold said Tuesday that after fleeing the traffic stop, Chauvin wrecked the truck and his passenger -- Richard Alexander Whitaker -- shot and killed the officer. Chauvin -- now 19 -- pleaded guilty to lesses charged of conspiracy to commit burglary, possession of tools for the commission of a crime and possession of a sawed-off shotgun in March 2005....
